- Plasterboard
- Artexed ceilings and walls
- Old plastered walls
- Rendered backing (sand, cement and waterproofer for solidness)
- Carlite Bonding (Backing plaster for less absorbant surfaces)
- Browning (Backing plaster for high absorbant surfaces)
- Hardwall (Backing plaster)
These are the most common backrounds to be skimmed on

Overboarding ceilings - Sometimes ceilings are beyond repair and cannot be skimmed over without problems re-occurring, so what we do is leave the old ceiling in place as long as it is fairly level, find and mark where the ceiling joists are and plasterboard over the top using screw fixings. It saves a lot of time and a lot of mess, also if its an upstairs ceiling, this method saves having to re-insulate your loft after the falling of insulation when pulling old ceiling down.
